Typically, I hate memoirs, fiction, and motivational books. They do nothing for me. They don’t scratch my brain itch.
But.
This was actually quite okay.
Sorry Haruki, that’s the best I can give you.
It is very interesting to hear the thoughts of an author. To hear the comparisons of writing with running is an interesting take. Though as I hate running, it has now made me terrified of finally putting pen to paper.
A brief memoir of Murakami’s mid 00s years and his love and passion for both running, and defying the years that inevitably wear away at us all.
Although it’s extremely self-serving and narcissistic at times, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running is an adequately uplifting moral story showing that you can achieve your goals – but only if you work your ass off.
I still think Murakami is a bit of a shitty dude. But at least I understand why when he’s running so many marathons and triathlons and iron man’s.
